Keely Hodgkinson Leads in the Race for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024 with Live Updates and Winners

Good evening and welcome to SunSport’s live blog featuring the BBC Sports Personality of the Year!

This prestigious event is taking place at BBC Sport’s headquarters located in MediaCity, Salford.

Keely Hodgkinson stands out as the frontrunner for the coveted award following her incredible success in the 800m event.

This Team GB athlete secured a gold medal in the 800m at the Paris Olympics held earlier this year.

The Atherton native also claimed the European title in Rome, just two months before her competition in France.

Hodgkinson set a new British national record, becoming the sixth fastest woman in history.

Another strong candidate for Sports Personality of the Year is teenage darts sensation Luke Littler, who was the runner-up at the World Darts Championship in January, propelling him into the limelight as one of the elite in the sport.

Since his outstanding performance at Alexandra Palace, Littler has won ten PDC titles in his debut year on the professional circuit.

The 17-year-old is aiming to be the youngest winner of this prestigious award in over six decades. Additionally, England and Real Madrid football star Jude Bellingham is also in the running for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year title.
