Sean Dyche, Everton Manager, Reveals that Ashley Young, Former Manchester United Star aged 39, Suffered a Neck Injury in Chelsea Match
SEAN DYCHE has confirmed that Ashley Young “injured his neck” during the match against Chelsea.
The experienced full-back, who is 39 years old, will miss the Boxing Day match against Man City due to a suspension.
The former England international picked up his fifth yellow card during the stalemate against Chelsea and will now serve a one-match suspension.
He was substituted with 15 minutes to go, making way for club captain Seamus Coleman.
Dyche elaborated afterwards, stating that Young was also a concern for the upcoming game at the Etihad, as he was substituted partially due to an injury.
Dyche remarked: “Youngy is suspended, but he injured his neck, although he delivered a brilliant header at the far post.
“We had to replace him for both reasons – to ensure he was physically alright and because he was already on a yellow card.”
Both Young and his 18-year-old son Tyler, who plays for Peterborough United, are hoping that the injury is not serious.
This is particularly significant as Everton is set to face the League One team in the FA Cup on January 9, a match that could see a father-son showdown.
Despite his age, Young continues to make significant contributions for Everton, having already made 14 Premier League appearances for the Toffees this season.
