England’s Renowned Darts Tournament Selects Seventeen-Year-Old Luke Littler as Representative

LUKE LITTLER is eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to wear the England jersey with honor this summer as he strives to secure the World Cup of Darts for his trophy collection.

He has also thrown down the gauntlet to Luke Humphries, his teammate, implying that he is determined to reach the pinnacle of the world rankings.

By clinching his first world darts championship title, Littler, aged 17, has ascended to the second position in the PDC Order of Merit, accumulating £1,118,500 in prize money.

This total does not reflect the extra earnings he garnered by becoming the Premier League champion (£315,000) or his wins in World Series events (£150,000).

Last year, Littler had just开始 turning pro and was not ranked high enough to qualify for the 40-nation World Cup—much to the surprise of observers.

This time, he has been selected to represent England and is set to create an all-Luke dream team in Frankfurt during the tournament from June 12-15.

Humphries, aged 29, along with Michael Smith, 34, were crowned World Cup champions last summer, while the legendary pairing of Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis have lifted the title four times.

A devoted England supporter, Littler wore the Three Lions jersey when the previous manager Gareth Southgate’s squad reached the Euros 2024 final, where they faced a loss to Spain in Berlin.

He shared: “Last year, people were unaware that the selectivity was based on rankings, and many were questioning, ‘Why isn’t Luke Littler in the World Cup?’
“I had to clarify: ‘Because I’ve just started my journey.’

“Now, with the significant ranking money influencing my standings, I think I’m quite competitive with Luke. I can hardly wait.”

Humphries is still likely dealing with the aftermath of his surprising 4-1 defeat in the fourth round to Peter Wright at Ally Pally, which resulted in him relinquishing the Sid Waddell Trophy.

In 2025, Cool Hand Luke will need to defend the substantial prize money he earned from previous triumphs and deep tournament runs, while Littler—now entering his second season as a pro—awaits his chance.

The young talent from Warrington remarked: “Naturally, the World No. 1 position could be attainable this year.

“Especially if Luke Humphries is unable to protect his prize money.

“However, if he manages to secure victories this year and retains his earnings, I will have to acknowledge his achievements.”
