Fans are shocked that Michael van Gerwen has been replaced by Peter Wright for the Bahrain Masters.

The PDC has selected eight players to go up against eight stars from the Asian Circuit in Doha next week.

World Champion Luke Littler will be part of the event, alongside world No. 1 Luke Humphries.

Nonetheless, Van Gerwen will miss out due to family commitments.

A PDC announcement stated: “The newly crowned World Champion Littler and world number one Humphries are set to lead the 2025 Bahrain Darts Masters next week, as the 16-player lineup is now finalized.”

“Two-time World Champion Peter Wright rounds out the eight-player PDC roster, as Van Gerwen cannot participate due to family duties.”

World No. 12 Wright has been picked to replace Van Gerwen, despite having a less-than-stellar tour year.

Although Wright did not acquire any titles, he did manage to defeat Humphries on his way to the World Darts Championship quarter-finals.

However, some fans believe that Wright does not merit this opportunity, arguing that Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker should have been chosen instead, especially after being left out of the Premier League lineup.

One fan stated: “What more must Mike De Decker accomplish to be recognized? Average 140? Hit 3 consecutive 9-darters? He’s a major winner and should be more respected than Peter Wright receiving another shot…”

A third added: “So De Decker isn’t ready for the World Series either? Surely he should be next up after the Premier players?”
