Jack Grealish Reflects on His Toughest Year at Man City, Despite the Happiness of Welcoming a Daughter
JACK GREALISH has labeled 2024 as “possibly the most demanding year of my life for various reasons” – despite the joyful arrival of his daughter.
The £100 million Manchester City player, who manager Pep Guardiola has hailed as a ‘street-fighter’, provided an impressive assist in the 79th minute for Kevin De Bruyne, which was pivotal in securing a victory over Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.
This could be the turning point he needs for his season, as he looks to move on from the difficulties of the past year.
Among the positives were the birth of his daughter Mila Rose in September and another Premier League title triumph, which he celebrated in a vibrant, shirtless parade.
On the flip side, he endured tough moments where his performance waned, leading to time on the bench – he also missed out on the FA Cup Final loss to Manchester United.
Furthermore, he was heartbreakingly excluded from Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros.
Grealish expressed, “Last year was unusual because of my little girl’s birth, yet it overall proved to be one of the hardest years.”
“It was perhaps the most demanding year of my life for numerous reasons, both on and off the field.”
“I struggled significantly. Now, it’s a new year, and I hope to make progress from here.”
This season, he has mainly watched from the sidelines, coming off the bench in nine of his 15 Premier League appearances.

At 29 years old, Grealish stated: “Recently, in games versus Crystal Palace, Salford, and now here, I’m striving to add more goals and assists.”
“Honestly, I need to play more to find my rhythm.”

“I remember how it felt a couple of years ago when I was consistently playing.”
“I find it tough to step in and out of games without regular play. Hopefully, I can keep up my training and participate in more matches.”
Following the match, in the underground parking area of the stadium, Grealish stood out as a favorite among the few Orient supporters present, taking the time to interact, sign shirts, and take photos.
At times, his performance has been frustrating, often opting for cutbacks or insider movements rather than challenging defenders directly.
