Microsoft Announces Massive R25.8 Billion Investment in South Africa
Microsoft Corp, a global technology leader, has announced its plan to invest R25.8 billion in South Africa, revealed during a press conference in Johannesburg on Thursday.
The company mentioned that the bulk of this investment will be directed towards new technology, artificial intelligence, and data centers over the upcoming years.

This announcement marks the largest single investment related to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s initiative to attract investments to South Africa.
Ramaphosa commended Microsoft’s decision, referring to it as “a significant investment in South Africa” and pointed out that “this is a US giant making this commitment.”
Since the inaugural South Africa Investment Conference in 2018, the nation has drawn in R1.14 trillion in investment commitments across various economic sectors, according to insights from The Presidency.

Brad Smith, vice chair and president at Microsoft Corp, noted that Microsoft has been a pivotal partner in South Africa’s digital transformation for over three decades.
Smith added, “This substantial investment by Microsoft will bolster South Africa’s position as a prominent Artificial Intelligence hub on the continent.”
He highlighted that the South African Revenue Service (SARS) serves as an exemplary case of state institutions utilizing technology and AI effectively within South Africa.
