Tragic news has emerged from the Durban City camp, as one of the club’s players tragically passed away on Tuesday.

The Durban-based squad was competing against their provincial rivals, Milford, in a Motsepe Foundation Championship match at Chatsworth Stadium when the game was halted.

Both Durban City and Milford issued brief statements regarding the situation. Milford stated, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the match has been postponed. Further updates will be provided later this week.”

Durban City, currently leading the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings, also released a statement:

MATCH POSTPONED

“Today’s match has been postponed due to circumstances beyond our control. The Premier Soccer League will provide an official update in due time.

“We appreciate your understanding and will keep you informed.”

Preliminary reports suggest that a Durban City player, whose name has not yet been formally released by the club, collapsed and sustained a head injury. An ambulance was called to the scene, and the player was transported to the hospital.

Sadly, it has been reported that the player, known to Sportswire, passed away while being taken to the hospital, prompting the immediate suspension of the match.

At the time of suspension, Durban City was trailing by one goal, with Milford midfielder Siphosethu Ndlabi having scored in the fourth minute.
