Warner Music Africa Unveils Ed Sheeran’s ‘Azizam’ in Cape Town Celebration

Cape Town—Warner Music is poised to make a significant impact in the Mother City this Freedom Day public holiday (Monday, April 28th) with a unique activation at the V&A Waterfront, inspired by Ed Sheeran’s genre-blending new single, Azizam.

This special pop-up event builds on Ed Sheeran’s ongoing digital out-of-home (DOOH) campaign, which is running from April 4 to May 4 at The Arc OOH site, one of the V&A Waterfront’s most emblematic locations.

Organisers have announced: “On Monday, April 28, 2025, we invite all Ed Sheeran enthusiasts and the general public to join us at the V&A Waterfront for a remarkable 20–25 minute live performance by the Cape Town-based band FAKERS STREET, delivering soulful renditions of Ed Sheeran’s hits like Azizam, Bad Habits, Shape of You, and Perfect.

“This performance goes beyond a mere show; it pays tribute to Ed’s roots in busking and his recent surprise street performances in New Orleans and London.

“While this gathering differs significantly from his monumental 2019 Green Point Stadium concert, the spirit of connection and spontaneity remains just as vibrant.”

Set against a Persian rug to reflect the cultural inspirations of Azizam, this activation features playful pink heart-shaped decals with the phrase “Meet Me on the Floor,” creating a visual and emotional tribute to the song’s essence: joy, love, and dancefloor euphoria.

Directional arrows adorned with QR codes will guide the public to the performance area, crafting an immersive and shareable experience in one of South Africa’s busiest public spaces.

“Azizam,” a Persian term of endearment meaning “my beloved,” highlights Sheeran’s celebration of cross-cultural inspirations.

Co-created with Swedish/Iranian producer Ilya Salmanzadeh (known for collaborations with Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, and Ellie Goulding), the track forges connections between Persian and Irish folk music, all wrapped in a fresh, pop-forward approach unique to Sheeran. It’s a vibrant invitation to embrace the moment—both in life and in love.

“While it deviates from my previous works, Azizam feels both new and familiar. My intention was to capture a festive spirit within this song, and Ilya’s contribution was vital to achieving that vision,” stated Sheeran.

As Sheeran embarks on a new musical adventure in 2025, this campaign marks the beginning of something bold, heartfelt, and universally joyful.
