Maart Reflects on His Future with the Chiefs

Yusuf Maart, captain of the Kaizer Chiefs, has voiced uncertainty regarding his future with the club as his contract nears its end this season.

Maart joined the Chiefs in July 2022 from Sekhukhune United and has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season, with contributions of two goals and three assists for the Glamour Boys.

The 29-year-old captain is set to lead the team in their upcoming match against Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates, at the FNB Stadium on Saturday at 15:00.

“For me personally, everything is in the hands of the Almighty,” Maart noted. “Every player, every individual, including those in the media, cannot foretell what the future holds.”

He continued, “Therefore, I entrust everything to the Almighty, and I will accept whatever comes my way.”

Sekhukhune, Maart’s previous club, is reportedly interested in re-signing him, as he showcased some of his best performances there, which led to his move to the Chiefs.

However, since arriving at Naturena, Maart has faced criticism from some Chiefs supporters, with a few expressing a desire for him to leave at the season’s end.

Despite this, the Chiefs seem eager to retain Maart for the foreseeable future.

When asked about his desire to stay at the club beyond this season, Maart replied, “It hinges on what the Almighty has planned for me, rather than just my decision. If the team provides a new contract, I will follow where the Almighty leads me in the end.”

He elaborated, “Since I pray frequently, I trust the Almighty to guide me to where a valuable opportunity lies.”

Nonetheless, Maart expressed his preference, saying, “Naturally, one wishes to play for a prominent team. I am already part of this team, so if they offer me a chance to remain, I will, because it’s a significant club.”

He further explained, “However, if other opportunities present themselves where I feel comfortable and see it as a challenge, I would consider pursuing that.”

“As I mentioned, if the Almighty presents choices where I must decide and contemplate my next challenge, I will take it.”

Since joining the Chiefs, Maart has played in 90 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing eight assists. Notably, one of these goals came against Pirates during the Soweto Derby in the 2022/23 season under coach Arthur Zwane.
