Investigation Underway into Olorato Mongale Murder: VW Polo Driver Known Only as ‘John’ Identified
Johannesburg – Gauteng authorities are searching for a man connected to the murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale, whose remains were found in Lombardy West over the weekend.
According to national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, Olorato’s body was discovered on Sunday afternoon, shortly after the suspect, referred to as “John,” picked her up from her home while driving a VW Polo.
Brigadier Mathe confirmed that the South African Police Service has deployed resources and teams to track down “John,” who is reported to be driving a VW Polo with a cloned license plate that originally belonged to a Toyota Hilux.
The counterfeit license plate displays LT 57 JG GP.
Describing the moments leading to the unfortunate discovery, Brigadier Mathe stated: “The suspect collected Olorato from her residential complex in Athol, Johannesburg, around 15:00 on Sunday, 25 May 2025.
“He drove with her through the township of Alexandra and proceeded to Kew.
“It is alleged that the suspect murdered Olorato between Alexandra and Lombardy West in Johannesburg, subsequently disposing of her body.”
Brigadier Mathe mentioned that some of Olorato’s belongings, including her cell phone and handbag, were found discarded along 9th Road in Kew.
“Her body was located less than two hours later, around 16:50 in Lombardy West, due to the efforts of the police and local community,” Brigadier Mathe remarked.
“Gauteng police are exploring the possibility that ‘John’ had another male accomplice at the time of Olorato’s murder.”
