Heinrich Klaasen Announces His Retirement from International Cricket
Johannesburg – Heinrich Klaasen has announced his “immediate retirement” from international cricket, marking the end of a remarkable seven-year journey with the Proteas Men.
The 33-year-old revealed on Monday, June 2, 2025, that he will be stepping away from the white-ball formats after concluding his red-ball career in 2024.
Klaasen made his debut in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals (T20Is) during the summer of 2018, quickly establishing himself as one of the most dynamic white-ball players of his time.
He has participated in 60 ODIs, accumulating over 2,000 runs at an impressive average just shy of 44 while batting in the middle order.
His explosive batting was highlighted by a phenomenal career-best innings of 174 against Australia at SuperSport Park in 2023 – the second-highest score ever recorded by a number five.
Renowned for his skill against spin, Klaasen also represented South Africa in 58 T20Is, achieving a strike rate of 141.84.
His ability to tackle bowling attacks with strategic aggression cemented his role as a vital player in South Africa’s limited-overs lineup.
