AmaZulu Completes Acquisition of Premier Defender
According to Sportswire, AmaZulu, who are in the midst of letting go of several players, have successfully acquired the highly sought-after defender Keagan Allan from Richards Bay.
Allan, a product of the Mamelodi Sundowns academy, played a crucial role for Richards Bay last season, significantly contributing to the club’s remarkable top-eight finish.
As reported by Sportswire, Allan, who has previously played for SuperSport United, Moroka Swallows, and the University of Pretoria, has signed a short-term contract with the Natal-based team.
The departure of Allan is expected to be a significant blow for Richards Bay, as the 24-year-old was a regular feature in their lineup. He participated in 25 league matches last season, scoring one goal, and formed a defensive partnership with captain Simphiwe Mcineka during Bay’s impressive campaign.
This impressive performance is exactly why Usuthu was eager to sign Allan, especially in light of their defensive challenges last season. AmaZulu conceded 34 goals while scoring only 29, finishing in the top six, just two positions ahead of Richards Bay.

Usuthu is actively reinforcing their squad following multiple departures, including Thembela Sikhakhane, Wayde Jooste, Rowan Human, Abbubaker Mobara, and Boniface Haba. The future of Tariq Fielies remains uncertain, particularly after his uninspired performance in Usuthu’s 5-0 defeat to Stellenbosch at King Zwelithini Stadium.
These changes within Usuthu were expected, especially after the club opted to retain coach Arthur Zwane for the upcoming season following their top-eight finish. Rumors suggest that Zwane, affectionately known as Mangethe, was frustrated with the attitudes of certain players, particularly related to locker room dynamics.
It has been alleged that some players expressed their dissatisfaction using inappropriate language, which reportedly did not sit well with coach Zwane. This situation may have contributed to incidents like Mobara’s suspension before the club ultimately decided to part ways with him.
