Hlophe Condemns Duduzile Zuma and Ndhlela for Disruptive Behavior in Caucus

Internal disputes within the MK Party have come to the forefront following a stern letter from the party’s deputy president, Dr. Mandlakayise (John) Hlophe. He accuses Duduzile Sambudla-Zuma, daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, and party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela of creating unrest within the parliamentary caucus.

In a letter dated June 26, Hlophe describes several disruptive incidents during caucus meetings, alleging that Ndhlela insulted newly appointed chief whip Colleen Makhubele and rejected his dismissal from the whippery. Hlophe further claims that Sambudla-Zuma caused “unnecessary chaos” by frequently interrupting discussions and challenging leadership authority.

“Commander Ndhlela has repeatedly disrespected the chief whip, labeling her a ‘political novice and newcomer’ on multiple occasions,” Hlophe remarked. “His actions indicate a deliberate attempt to undermine the chief whip’s authority and disrupt the cohesion of the caucus.”

MK Leadership Crisis Escalates as Letters Emerge and Loyalties Shift

This letter arrives amidst growing calls for Makhubele to resign from her position as chief whip just a month into her tenure, with critics questioning her leadership effectiveness. Nevertheless, Hlophe has come to her defense, denouncing attempts to subvert her authority.

During a recent meeting of the whippery team, Sambudla-Zuma allegedly interrupted proceedings by disregarding requests to wait her turn and challenging the leadership. Hlophe stated that even after his intervention, she persisted in her disruptive conduct.

“She abruptly stood up, gathered her belongings, and exclaimed, ‘Are we not done?’ only to sit back down upon noticing that no one had followed her lead,” Hlophe recounted.

He warned that the actions of Sambudla-Zuma and Ndhlela breach the party’s constitution and code of conduct, urging Zuma to intervene immediately.

“These matters require urgent attention to restore unity, effectiveness, and uphold the revolutionary values of the MK Party,” Hlophe insisted. “I remain committed to working with all stakeholders to advance the MK Party’s transformative objectives.”

Ndhlela Responds as Factional Conflicts Threaten Party Stability

In his rebuttal, Ndhlela stated he had only seen the letter circulating on social media. When he approached Hlophe about it, the deputy president allegedly claimed, “his signature has been misused.”

The turmoil arises during a period of ongoing factional conflicts within the MK Party, marked by rapid changes in key positions since its formation in December 2023. The party has already experienced six different secretary-generals. Most recently, Mzwanele Manyi was ousted from his role as chief whip and replaced by Makhubele.

Makhubele is presently facing criticism herself. A letter that has been circulating reportedly from the MK Party caucus accuses her of autocratic governance and failing to engage members adequately.

“Makhubele’s conduct has alienated members, eroded trust, and jeopardized the integrity of our caucus,” the letter claims.

When asked for a comment, Ndhlela declined to elaborate, stating:

“I saw it for the first time when I received it from a journalist; unfortunately, I can’t comment on caucus matters.”
