Moscow Train Stations: Biometric Systems Set to Launch at All Metro Turnstiles by Year-End

Moscow – Russia is making substantial strides toward the implementation of biometrics at all metro turnstiles in the capital by year-end.

This week, Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow responsible for transport and infrastructure, announced that all payment systems for train station access will be fully integrated by the conclusion of 2025.

Liksutov mentioned that the work on Line 8A was finalized last week, with the biometric system now operational at 138 turnstiles.

The biometric system is already functioning as a seamless payment method across all turnstiles on the following lines:

  • Line 16
  • Line 12
  • Line 15
  • Lines 4 and 4A

“Moscow is at the forefront globally in offering a variety of transport options with biometric payments,” said Liksutov.

“This payment service is available on the metro, MCC, Aeroexpress, regular river routes, and selected MCD stations.

“This innovative payment method can be used at around 1.5 thousand turnstiles throughout urban transport.”

Liksutov further stated, “In line with the directives from Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we will continue to promote the best Russian payment solutions to enhance convenience in the city’s transport system.”
