Home Affairs Terminates 5 Officials Over Fraud, Corruption, and Sexual Assault Allegations
Johannesburg – The ongoing cleanup at the Department of Home Affairs has led to the dismissal of five “crooked officials.”
The department revealed that these officials were terminated on Monday, 28 July 2025, due to issues of corruption, fraud, and sexual assault.
In a statement shared with The Bulrushes on Wednesday, 30 July 2025, the department indicated: “The cumulative total of officials dismissed from July 2024 to July 2025 now stands at 38.”
Furthermore, eight officials have already been convicted and sentenced to prison terms ranging from four to 18 years, while criminal proceedings against an additional 19 are currently underway.
These dismissals are part of an ongoing crackdown on a passport syndicate in Durban last month, which resulted in the arrest of two officials along with three civilians.
These developments underscore the growing effectiveness of Home Affairs in combating criminal syndicates both within and outside the Department.
Home Affairs Minister Dr. Leon Schreiber remarked: “In just 12 months, we have successfully removed 38 corrupt and delinquent officials from Home Affairs.”
“I want to reiterate my warning to anyone involved in corruption: the time for defrauding this Department, or engaging in acts of sexual harassment or abuse while expecting lengthy disciplinary procedures, is over.”
Minister Schreiber further expressed: “I would like to thank the committed officials, including those who help expedite disciplinary processes, who are vital to our mission to cleanse Home Affairs.”
“Dedicated officials like these are the future of Home Affairs, as we continue our journey as #TeamHomeAffairs to eradicate the corrupt elements that have marked our past.”
