Brewer’s vehicle collided head-on with the wall at the quarter-mile track at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
His car ultimately came to a halt near the start-finish line.
Track officials assisted in extracting Brewer from the vehicle, and he was rushed to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Robbie Brewer, who was taken to a local medical facility following a track incident,” stated officials from the track on Sunday.
“Robbie was a dedicated and skilled racer, highly esteemed by his fellow drivers.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Robbie’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
The specifics of the medical emergency have yet to be clarified.
Brewer was participating in the 20-lap Sportsman Series race at Bowman Gray.
This four-division racing event attracts thousands of fans every Saturday night in the spring and summer.

Brewer’s racing career began in 1990.
He had more than 250 starts in the Sportsman Division.
In 2011, Brewer clinched the points championship.
Brad Lewis, a fellow racer at Bowman Gray, shared a close relationship with Brewer.

Lewis shared cherished memories of Brewer, describing him as “a big brother to me, even with our modest age difference.”
“He was an exceptional driver,” he remarked.
“I will honor him not just this season but for as long as the sport continues.”
