Khoza Aims for Betway Premiership Glory Following Historic MTN8 Victory
In the wake of Orlando Pirates’ historic fourth consecutive MTN8 title victory, club director Mpume Khoza highlighted that their next aim is to clinch the prestigious Betway Premiership trophy.
The Buccaneers secured their triumph in the Wafa Wafa Cup with an impressive 3-0 defeat of Stellenbosch FC, claiming victory after extra time at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, in what started as a strategic match.
This win marks the first for coach Abdelsam Ouaddou, who succeeded the cherished Jose Riveiro, a three-time champion of this competition.
“Firstly, we owe our gratitude to our supporters, our 12th man who drives us forward,” Khoza declared during an interview with SuperSport TV.
Pirates have been runners-up to Mamelodi Sundowns for the past three seasons, a team that has constantly demonstrated its winning prowess, unlike the Buccaneers.

Khoza further commented, “In addition, we need to commend the commitment of our team, coaches, and players. When we initiated our preseason, led by our chairman [Irvin Khoza], it felt like a gamble, yet his investment has yielded results, and we are grateful for the achievements we’ve garnered in tournaments such as this. We hope that as we enter the league, everything will come together and align.”
This victory stands as the 14th top-eight title in the club’s history and their fifth over the last six seasons. Khoza emphasized that it is management’s responsibility to build on the club’s heritage by winning more championships.
“As our chairman has stated, it is our duty to continually enhance the legacy of Orlando Pirates,” Khoza noted.
“Today’s new signings, including our young captain Mbekezeli Mbokazi, showcasing our fourth consecutive title underscores our dedication to the club’s legacy, which is vital to us.”
