Mandla Mthembu, Former Husband of Socialite Khanyi Mbau, Has Died
Johannesburg – Mandla Mthembu, the former husband of socialite Khanyi Mbau, has unfortunately passed away in New York at the age of 68.
In a statement issued on Monday, 22 September 2025, his family said: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Mandla Mthembu, a respected business leader and long-standing member of the African National Congress.”
Mthembu died on the evening of 21 September 2025.
The family revealed that “Mthembu was hospitalized after experiencing a second stroke.”
They noted that despite the “dedicated efforts of medical professionals, he sadly succumbed to complications from the stroke.”
Mthembu and Mbau got married when she was 19, with him being 30 years her senior.
The couple has a daughter named Khanukani.
They were married in 2006 and divorced in 2009.
The Mthembu family requests privacy during this profoundly difficult time as they grieve the loss of their beloved father, brother, and friend.
