Arsenal 1, Lyon 2: Chloe Kelly and Team Fall to Champions League Defeat as French Giants Capitalize on Gunners’ Mistakes
A brace from MELCHIE DUMORNAY served as a wake-up call for Arsenal in their first Champions League match since clinching the title.
The 22-year-old exploited defensive mistakes, putting Renee Slegers and the team under pressure during the opening encounter of the revamped league format.

Her two goals came after a promising start for Arsenal, as Alessia Russo had given the Gunners an early lead.
Beth Mead perfectly assisted the striker with an impressive display of individual skill, allowing Russo to slot the ball into the bottom-right corner.
OL Lyonnes quickly retaliated, mounting pressure on the reigning champions. Dumornay capitalized on a poor pass from Daphne van Domselaar, finding the back of an open net.
Another error led to Arsenal conceding again just minutes later; Katie Reid, only 19, failed to clear the ball after Mariona Caldentey lost it to Lindsey Heaps. Dumornay seized the chance and fired her shot into the top-left corner.
Following the half-time break, the Gunners nearly leveled the score, with Caldentey’s shot being redirected away by the fingertips of Christiane Endler.
However, this was their most critical opportunity of the second half as the visitors maintained control.
