KwaZulu-Natal Unveils 177 New Traffic Officers to Kick Off Transport Month

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport is dedicated to improving road safety and combating lawlessness across the province. To aid this effort, 177 new traffic officers have been deployed to enhance patrols and increase visibility on key routes.

The department notes that many accidents happen on essential highways such as the N3 and N2, leading to a heightened focus on monitoring and enforcement strategies.

Transport Month Highlights Discipline and Visibility

With October being celebrated as Transport Month, MEC Siboniso Duma emphasized that his department will not tolerate reckless behavior on the roads.

“We’re making sure our presence is felt daily as we oversee the situation,” Duma commented.

Duma highlighted that the additional officers are intended to promote driver discipline and ensure compliance with traffic laws.

The MEC also delivered a firm warning to traffic officers against engaging in corrupt practices or accepting bribes.

“We’ve been clear; no incentives should be taken. Anyone caught will face arrest. Drivers exceeding 140 km per hour will also be arrested,” he asserted.

The MEC’s strong stance signifies a renewed commitment to restoring order on KwaZulu-Natal’s roads and prioritizing the safety of all motorists.
