Devastating Crash: Six Lives Cut Short in R542 Bakkie Accident Near Blinkpan

Blinkpan – A tragic head-on collision involving two bakkies resulted in the loss of six lives on the R542 near Blinkpan, just outside Middelburg in Mpumalanga, on Friday, June 5, 2026.

Both drivers were among the deceased.

Moreover, four additional passengers sustained severe injuries and have been transported to hospitals in Middelburg and Emalahleni (formerly known as Witbank) for care.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.

The identities of the deceased are being kept confidential until their next of kin have been notified.

Jackie Macie, the Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, extended her sympathies to the affected families and urged a quick recovery for the injured.

“It is crucial for all road users to play a role in preventing such tragedies. Every person on the road must follow traffic laws and remain alert at all times,” Macie emphasized.
