MKP Asks Former Spokesperson Ndhlela to Return Party Property and Access Card

Durban – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has formally expelled former spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela from its ranks, under the leadership of ex-president Jacob Zuma.

Following Ndhlela’s dismissal as spokesperson, the MKP announced his suspension from membership, his removal as a Member of Parliament, and that he is required to return all party property in his possession within seven days.

Ndhlela was let go from his spokesperson position after he issued a contentious media statement regarding the newly established MK Institute, which he claimed would take full authority over the party’s leadership structures.

Party leaders deemed the statement “null and void,” asserting that it contradicted the party’s constitution, resulting in his immediate termination.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, MKP National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko sent a letter to Ndhlela detailing the penalties.

“This letter serves to formally inform you that President Jacob Zuma has made the decision to suspend your party membership effective immediately, pending an investigation,” Nhleko wrote.

“This decision is based on allegations of misconduct, inciting division, and damaging the party’s reputation.”

The letter, which was reviewed by The Bulrushes, further stated: “Pending the investigation’s conclusion, you are prohibited from representing the party in any official capacity and are barred from accessing or managing any MKP social media and public accounts, bank accounts, or digital platforms; you must return all party property, which includes, but is not limited to, documents, devices, membership card, passwords, and access credentials, to the Office of the Secretary-General within seven days of this notice.”

Ndhlela, who was quickly succeeded as MKP spokesperson by former The Star newspaper editor Sifisumusa Mahlangu, has yet to publicly comment on the matter.
